Kenneth Mejia, the City Controller, tweeted his condolences to those who lost their loved ones and added that Monterey Park is home to one of the largest Asian communities in Los Angeles County.
Details around the incident remain unclear, although many have been left feeling shaken and saddened by what they heard; it was claimed that a gunman with a machine gun fired multiple rounds. Further information will get updated as soon as law enforcement officials provides the further information.
Although many had gathered in celebration earlier on in the day, this tragic news has put an understandable damper on the festivities.
