The sports community is grieving the loss of respected NFL agent Cameron Weiss, who passed away on September 11th at the age of 38 after fighting a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Weiss was the co-founder of Dynamic Sports Group and represented several high-profile NFL players. His passionate advocacy for his clients and contribution to advancing LGBTQ inclusion in pro sports made him a widely admired figure across the industry.
According to statements from Dynamic Sports Group, Weiss had been privately battling cancer for an extended period before his death. Though he underwent treatment, the disease ultimately took his life far too soon at just 38 years old.
Weiss and business partner Joe Barkett first founded the sports agency Empire Athletes in 2012 prior to launching Dynamic Sports Group. Though leading a smaller agency, Weiss stood out for his commitment to providing elite representation.
One of Weiss’ most notable client relationships was with running back Austin Ekeler, who became a star player for the Los Angeles Chargers. Weiss, a chargers fan himself, guided Ekeler through contract negotiations including a 4 year, $24.5 million deal in 2020.
However, Weiss rose to national prominence in 2014 when he signed Michael Sam just months after Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted in NFL history. As Sam’s agent, Weiss offered not just professional guidance but also invaluable personal support as Sam braved intense media scrutiny.
Colleagues praised Weiss’ loyalty and heartfelt concern for his clients’ well-being. “He genuinely cared and wanted the best for every one of his clients,” Barkett said of his late business partner. Beyond his impressive client roster, those who worked with Weiss emphasized his warmth, integrity and passion for his work.
