Who was David Dade?
David Dade was a remarkable individual who had a passion for bearding. David was the driving force behind the establishment of The South Saxon Beardsmen and played a pivotal role in the success of the British Beard Club. He was a kind, generous, and warm-hearted person who will be deeply missed by all.
About Beard Club
The British Beard Club website was registered by Dave in 2008, following a discussion amongst participants of the British Beard category at the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Brighton the previous year. Russ Sherwood led the conversation, expressing his disappointment at the lack of a Beard Club in the UK. Sadly, Russ passed away unexpectedly, leaving Dave and other enthusiasts to continue his efforts.
Following a recommendation from a friend, Dave revived the idea and the British Beard Club was born. The club’s first meeting took place on February 13th, 2009, and they have commemorated the anniversary every year since. The Handlebar Club, which has been around since 1947 and was previously only for moustached men, served as the WBMC’s host. The British Beard Club filled a much-needed gap in the UK’s facial hair scene and continues to provide a space for like-minded individuals to come together and celebrate their shared love for all things beard-related.
