The devastating collision occurred at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 425 and Buckles Road in Rayville, Louisiana. The Louisiana State Police (LSP) pieced together the harrowing details: a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban, operated by Kasey Thompson, 43 years old, was southbound on U.S. Hwy. 425, followed by a 2001 Volvo tractor pulling a grain trailer, driven by James Barnes, 70 years old. As Thompson signaled for a left turn onto Buckles Road, the Volvo tragically collided with the rear of the Suburban, resulting in a fiery impact. The Suburban, carrying four occupants including three children, was engulfed in flames. Tragically, the two children in the back, who were securely restrained, lost their lives in the accident, a fact confirmed by the Richland Parish Coroner’s Office. Kasey Thompson and her front-seat passenger, both wearing seatbelts, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. In a tragic twist, James Barnes, the Volvo operator, was not wearing a seatbelt, yet emerged unscathed. Though impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples are under analysis.
