His coverage of North Mississippi and his Emmy Award-winning feature articles made him well known.
Tom, an MMJ (multimedia journalist), frequently traveled by himself through North Mississippi in search of real people to feature in his tales. He loved his wife Cathy and their three children, Amelia, Ally, and Austin. He was a devoted family man. Tom was a guitarist, a Taekwondo black belt, and a side musician.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a rare lung ailment, was detected in Tom Dees at the start of January, leading to his hospitalization. Despite being in the hospital, he was unable to win the battle and died on February 9th at the age of 57.

He was fighting hard to make it the last few months til May. He wanted to see their accomplishments….
