Legendary Mexican wrestler Jesús Toral López, professionally known as Black Warrior sadly passed away on Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 at the age of 54. Lopez wrestled for both LuchaLibre AAA Worldwide and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) during his career. Each of them independently confirmed the news this morning and wrote a heartfelt memorial for him.

Who Was Black Warrior?

Black Warrior was born on January 7, 1969, in Torreon, Coahuila. He was a member of the CMLL and rose to stardom in the ring in 2000. He later got immense popularity as one of the sport’s most recognizable fighters. The gladiator continued to wrestle up until his death and also instructed students in the Tepito Arena Welcome ToMiBario and the CuautitlanIzcalli Arena Mama Lucha-s.

López performed for almost a decade under numerous ring names, typically with limited success, before adopting the “Black Warrior” image. His only notable former ring character was “Bronce,” which is Spanish for Bronze, where he collaborated with Oro and Plata as a member of the “Los Metalicos” combo, a group that was well-liked in the early 1990s. López is the brother-in-law of Mano Negro Jr., the son-in-law of Mano Negro, and the nephew of Luchador Blue Panther.

Black Warrior Jr., the son of Black Warrior, passed away on March 17 of last year at the age of 24 after fighting day by day to recover from a cervical injury that kept him in bed for seven months.

Jesús Toral López, better known by his stage name as Black Warrior in the world of costalazos, passed away on Tuesday, January 10th at the age of 54. A wrestler who had an outstanding career as part of this organization reaching his zenith in the 90s and 2000s, Black Warrior had a career whose peak was in those years.
