Who Was Dwight Oltman?
Dwight Oltman was born on May 27, 1936, in Enders, Nebraska. He was an American conductor and educator, who completed his doctoral studies at the University of Cincinnati after receiving his Master of Music from M.M., Wichita State University. In conducting, he received instruction from Pierre Monteux and Max Rudolf, and in composition, from Nadia Boulanger.
Maestro Oltman formed the Ohio Chamber Orchestra in 1972, worked for 24 years as the Cleveland Ballet Orchestra’s music director and conductor, and subsequently spent 12 years in charge of the Ballet San Jose Orchestra. As Cleveland Ballet’s music director and principal conductor from 1976 until 2000. In well-known cities including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Detroit, he managed hundreds of concerts. He oversaw a week of performances at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland while in Europe.

Every day I hear his voice, and I will miss him dearly.”
