Yesterday SSFD lost one of our brothers, Jared Rhodes… a guy who could always find a way to make the whole room laugh.
I liked him instantly when he hired on and was assigned to C plt as a rookie. He switched to A plt shortly after I promoted to Captain, and I remember feeling heartbroken to lose him. Jared quickly became a solid knowledgeable Firefighter, and as a newly promoted Captain… he was the guy I wanted in the back of the truck.
Last year he promoted to Driver and was reassigned to C plt, and I was so excited to get to work with him again. Not just because he was so solid, but mainly because he made a 24hr shift more fun… the man would throw out zingers, movie quotes, get the whole room laughing, and as another brother said… he made the best “shitty tacos” ever. He loved a good practical joke and could be the butt of one as well and laugh with everyone else…
