Tributes pours To Jay Foulk death
Melissa Hart Lema
I don’t have a picture of our families together, but Jay Foulk and Kelley McFarlane Foulk were an integral part of our lives while we lived in San Diego and Chris and Jay were good about chatting on the phone regularly since our move. We were working on getting him out to Houston for a visit! The tears won’t stay in my eyes. Jay, you will be missed by so many. How you parented, loved your wife, smoked cigars, and loved on people everywhere you went made you who you were. I loved dinners with you and Kels, and family swim days and watching Colin eat hot dog after hot dog. You were one of the few who figured out how to pay for a Lema dinner without us knowing. I know you are rejoicing, but it feels too soon!
I will forever miss my buddy Jay who was always smiling (sometimes even while crying). We met his first week at North Coast (the San Marcos / Escondido campus) and continued our friendship from there. I’m not someone who is normally “without words” but it just doesn’t feel real. Here’s my favorite Jay story. He came over to talk and smoke a cigar. Then it was time for him to get the kids, so he took off. I stayed out back finishing my stick. When I walked in the house, music was playing – throughout the house. Why? Because every time he walked in or out of our house, he’d say, “Alexa, play Nickelback.” Heaven’s gain is our loss. We’ll miss you buddy.
The life and legacy of Jay Foulk is a testament to the power of ministry, compassion, and intentional discipleship. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him, but his impact will continue to shape the North Coast Church community and the broader Christian community for years to come. As we reflect on his life, may we be inspired to live with the same commitment to discipleship, relationship-building, and compassion that he embodied throughout his ministry. Rest in peace, Pastor Jay Foulk.
