This morning at approximately 9:36 am, WPD officers were dispatched to La Quinta High School in reference to a student with a gun threatening to shoot people. Officers arrived on campus within two minutes and began systematically searching the school. It was determined that this was a ‘swatting’ call. A similar incident occurred yesterday in Florida using the same fictitious phone number. Our Officers, SRO, Detective Bureau, Traffic Division, and school faculty ensured there were no threats to any students. Our Detective Bureau will be following up with the investigation. The school was placed on lockdown, but it has now been lifted, and there are no threats to the students or faculty.#WPD47

Thank you so much to all WDP Officers for being there for all the staff and students. Also many thanks to all the staff for keeping our children safe and sound in the classrooms. I almost got heart attack when I got notification from school mentioning about the lockdown, as the same time, my kid texted me saying that “I miss you already, mom” 😢. I felt like something is wrong because I just dropped her off at school not long ago. Tried to keep my child calm and she did good after all. Once again, we really appreciate all Officers who always respond quickly to the calls and act fast to protect our children and our community. May God bless them and their families forever! ❤️❤️❤️
