He became Peter’s mentor and helped him master the art of playing the guitar in a very short span of time. After that, Peter collaborated with the late Joseph Mutaiti Ndeto in the Super Kaiti Boys Band. He played the guitar solo and also worked as a singing backup.

In 1986, he joined the Ngoleni Brothers and performed with Dickson Mutuku Mulwa on guitar. He changed bands a year later to join David Kasyoki Wamutoo and Prince Maingi in the Kyanganga Boys Band to start with Katitu Boys Band.

Peter Nguma Had a Legendary Career with Katitu Boys

Nguma went on to play in numerous songs including “Chokora,” “Cheza Na Katitu,” “Dr. Muia Wa Kalii,” “Chunga Pombe,” “Njeri My Daystar,” and “Mbiti Wa Kinzilo” with the Katitu Boys. The group also released the timeless classic “Tembea Kenya” two years after its formation.

Charles Mutiso Nzevela, who was the author of the songs “Katungwa” and “Ivinda Ya Tene,” was also a part of the group. In 1989, David and Charles both came to the band after quitting Kyanganga Boys Band.

Peter was the man who sang the first verses of the song which go like this: “Tembea Kenya! Welcome to Kenya! We Kenyans welcome visitors from all around the world!” In addition to his work with the group, Peter also worked on solo projects.
