Born on November 9, 1957, in Northwood, North Dakota, Kottsick was the beloved son of Robert and Dorothy (Svihla) Kottsick.After graduating from high school in Mandan, North Dakota in 1976, he attended Valley City State University on football and baseball scholarships, where he studied art and met his future wife, Debra Coughlin.

A Successful Career in Insurance

Kottsick’s career spanned across various businesses, but he is most remembered for his 18-year tenure as the owner of a State Farm Insurance agency in Grand Forks. He took great pride in serving his community, knowing all his customers by name and their stories.

A Devoted Family Man

Outside of his professional life, Kottsick was a dedicated family man. He and his wife Debra raised their family in Mandan before relocating to Grand Forks. In 2016, Randy and Deb began visiting Arizona, where they bought a house and formed numerous enduring friendships.
