Dear Roger Bobo!! You were the one giving me the courage when I was 23!!! Such an incredible human being, and musician and teacher!! I will miss you SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!
I’ve heard that one of the greatest brass teachers and players (the world over) has finished his race. What a lovely, humble, talented, thoughtful, and caring man. I studied with Tommy Johnson back on the nineties, and barely a lesson went by when he didn’t mention Roger. I got to know a little bit in more recent times, and he was so supportive, despite where he was in his worldwide travels. He leaves a legacy of tuba players and musicians who are better people for having known him. A true gentleman.
I am sad to learn that Roger Bobo has past away. His recordings was a huge inspiration when I started playing the tuba. It is hard to exaggerate the impact he has had on the development of the tuba as a solo instrument. Rest in peace.
