Susi Newborn. What a beautiful woman, inspirational, life changing, a massive friend of the environment. You were decades ahead of everyone in your awareness and activism. And Thankyou that even up to a few days ago you were fighting for the insanity in Gaza to stop and justice be given back to the Palestinians. I will miss you Susi. My kids will tell your stories to their kids – of harpoons and seals and the high seas and facing off against nuclear powers – of this remarkable woman called Susi.

I last saw Susi Newborn just a few weeks ago at a Free Palestine rally in Aotea Square, where we jumped for joy at her contribution in getting Waiheke Local Board to call for a ceasefire and fly the Palestinian flag. I am devastated to hear of her passing today, as I know many will be, especially on the island and those connected to the many kaupapa she weaved together and touched with such conviction and creativity. She was prolific as she was humble. Co-founder of Greenpeace, one of the original crew on the Rainbow Warrior and in the last few years, ardent organiser for housing as a human right, especially on Waiheke. Sending love and deep condolences to her whānau. Rest in power, Susi 🕊️
