The Life and Legacy of Theuns Jordaan

Born on a Karoo farm near Venterstad in the Eastern Cape on January 10, 1971, Theuns Jordaan carved out a successful career in music. He gave his debut performance at a local pub called The Terrace on October 21, 1992, while he was studying industrial psychology at the University of Stellenbosch. His talent for writing his own lyrics led to the creation of five songs that were included in his first album titled “Vreemde Stad”.

Theuns completed his secondary education at Volkskool High School in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape. While studying, he performed music at a pizza restaurant and bar called Trail in. After graduating from college, he worked as an entrepreneur for a year. In October 1998, he relocated from the Cape to Pretoria, where he gained recognition and recorded his debut album, “Vreemde Stad”, in Stellenbosch.

Theuns Jordaan’s life was tragically cut short on November 17, 2021, following a leukemia diagnosis in September 2020. His funeral took place in Pretoria on November 26, 2021. His first album, “Vreemde Stad”, achieved triple platinum certification in July 2003, selling 150,000 copies.
